〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: Hattori Heiji
CHARACTER AGE: 18 (Birthday in game)
SERIES: Detective Conan
CHRONOLOGY: Current canon as of 943, plus in game events
CLASS: Hero
HOUSING: Maurtia Falls, preferably his own place

BACKGROUND:

Detective Conan is a 'modern' story. Technology, fads, people, etc reflect modern Japan pretty accurately, so long as you add in that Tokyo is like the murder capital of the world. Magic is a thing that does not exist (Magic Kaito's Akako notwithstanding), and everything has an explanation provided you look at it the right way.

Heiji is a major minor character who was born and raised in Osaka. He is Shinichi (Conan)'s Western rival in that he is also an incredibly perceptive teenage detective. He's the son of Heizo and Shizuka. Heizo is the chief of police in Osaka and while Shizuka is largely unknown beyond being a capable swordswoman, Heiji has said outright that he got his bravery from her. It is easy to see Heiji in both of his parents the few times they are actually seen in canon. He grew up with his best friend, Kazuha, who despite being often short tempered with he very clearly cares about her and they go just about everywhere together, even to cases. Despite his disbelief in spiritual things, he still always wears the charm she made for him from a piece of the handcuffs they were once trapped in together while playing cops and robbers as children. Bad things tend to happen to him when he doesn't wear it.

Despite being introduced as a direct rival to Shinichi, Heiji actually figures out Conan's identity as the missing detective on the second time they meet and becomes a quick ally in supporting him. He is kept out of most of the major plot related storylines, only hearing about some of the events after the fact if any at all, but often brings cases to Conan thinking the boy would find them interesting and fun to solve. He has also been brought in to help Conan from time to time, even going so far as to disguise as Shinichi to remove suspicion off of Conan (to varying degrees of success). They often work better together than apart, although they will still indulge in a bit of friendly competition to see who the 'better' detective is.

Here is a list of the cases he's been involved in, with minor summaries. It's an incomplete list, missing any case after his appearance in chapters 390-392. The notable cases are the Haunted Ship party case (plot related; chapters 428-434) where he disguised as Shinichi to fool the Black Organization while Conan went behind their back to trap them; The Yuki-Onna case (518-522) where Heiji was reminiscing about a middle school trip where he first went head to head against Shinichi in solving a murder, at the time never knowing who he was (Character developmental case); The Detective Koshien (562-566) where four of the famous teenage detectives were called to an island and abandoned due to a false deduction one of them made about a previous case (Not super important, just really fun and a good example of character for Heiji); The Town of Animosity (646-655) where Shinichi gets called out on a false deduction and, after mistakingly taking an antidote Conan returns to his real body temporarily, 'loses his memory', and gets charged with murder. Heiji refuses to give up on him and investigates relentlessly (Showcases a lot of strong traits, and is a great example of the relationship and faith he has with Conan); The Ebisu Bridge case (879-881) where Conan finds a code in Tokyo that ends up relating to a drug deal going down in Osaka and Heiji goes to hunt down the dealer and ends up getting his ass kicked trying to defend Kazuha (Another fun case, but is a great example of just how far he'll go for someone he cares about).

He is unwillingly kept ignorant of a lot of what's going on in the major plot of the story, thanks to Conan having a 'need to know' policy with information and for the most part Heiji doesn't need to know.

Mask or Menace: Heiji arrived and almost immediately got introduced to the chaos that the porter can bring, with the Flare virus event back in April. It was a trial by fire where he nearly died (he got healed by Jonathan before that end) and due to the power of panmnesia he could not forget it.

In May Archangel was established to fight MF's criminal underground and corruption, and he joined on under Jacob in order to research cold cases and investigate the group's suspicions. He saw little action as he was under 18 at the time, and was not involved in Archangel's more vigilante plans. When Steve took over the group it' policies changed quite a lot, aiming more towards stealth than outright fighting. Late summer, as a group they infiltrated a party for the MFPD and personally arrested several corrupt officers and officials.

Having turned 18 in summer, Heiji took the test to become an MFPD officer with the intent to not only clean up the streets and help people personally, but to give Archangel an eye inside the department in case there is more corruption they need to weed out. So far he has not accomplished anything particularly of note, though he had worked security at the October Swear-In.

The current case he'd been working on is figuring out what happened with Liberty Girl's fiance's murder.

PERSONALITY:

Heiji seems like that only character to act his actual age sometimes. He is frighteningly smart, capable of deducting the culprits from the cases he's involved in even though the police are often stumped, but he is very rarely ever mature beyond his years like Conan. He is not an adult and he knows it.

He is arrogant, and brash; very hotheaded and easy to offend. He often acts without thinking and it gets him into trouble more than it should. He is quite dense when it comes to topics that don't have to do with some kind of mystery. He values human life to an extent that he would destroy potential evidence (like a window) in order to get at a victim that may still be alive. He's so confident that when he thinks he's got the answer he will sink in his teeth and follow through to the end, no matter how many people tell him to stop. This could be dangerous on the rare occasion he reads evidence wrong (which has happened in a couple cases). Sometimes he gets so into a certain mood that he forgets everything around him; a mood that only grows worse the more frustrated he gets. Add to that a natural competitiveness and he's a force to be reckoned with. It makes him very disarming, and people tend to underestimate just how smart he actually is.

Heiji is loyal to a fault, and once you've won him around he is just about impossible to get rid of. He's incredibly friendly to most, though he will relentlessly argue with the people he really cares about. There is very little he's ever been afraid of, and every time you see him truly scared in canon it usually involves being scared for someone else rather than himself. He treats most people equally, no matter who they are. He's one of very few people who still treats Conan like Shinichi (to the point where he forgets that he should't call Conan by his real name).

He is very proud of his city, and literally everything that has to do with it. He gets very defensive if anyone badmouths Osaka, or the Kansai dialect, and if you give him the chance he will take you on a tour around just about everything fun there is to see. Twice.

Heiji finds life exciting. He will jump on any interesting case that comes his way, and he doesn't seem truly happy unless he's solving some kind of puzzle or another. Though he can be rather dense when it comes to the feelings of others. He misses Kazuha's love for him entirely, and can't even name what it is that makes him so jealous when it seems like she's getting hit on, or chatting up another guy. He can find joy in simple things and generally tries to spread that joy to anyone around him when possible. Even with a murder at his feet he tends to be rather light hearted, only getting truly serious when it gets personal.

On a case he will take charge with no hesitation, though he does stand back to let Conan actually give the deduction through "the Sleeping Kogoro". When Conan isn't there, or can't deduct for whatever reason, Heiji is right in the center of it all. This likely comes from his close relationship with the Osaka police, making him that much more comfortable taking charge of a scene.

He doesn't tend to believe in the supernatural, but he often trusts in Kazuha's superstitions and it has saved lives quite a few times.

Mask or Menace: Heiji had not lived in game long enough to significantly change his personality, but being under the constant risk for danger living in Maurtia Falls changed his perspective to a more full time 'case'. While he's still arrogant and brash at times he knows that there are real lives on the line with the gangs holding so much power. This job isn't 'fun' like most cases are so he's more serious in game than his normal state in canon.

He also admits that there are possibilities he doesn't understand in this world, his own existence here being evidence number one. While he still knows supernatural matters aren't real in HIS world, he has to take the evidence he has personally seen and accepts that there is no such thing as impossibility here.

POWER:

General in canon skill list: He's got a highly intelligent deductive reasoning. He can gather evidence and string together clues that would make no sense to your average person. His memory is exceptional: he can remember long strings of codes, or statements without having to write anything down  He is captain of his school's kendo team; his skills with a sword are above average and this has aided him in cases more than once. He has incredible balance and fine tuned reflexes from being constantly active. This also helps him be an exceptional motorcyclist.

Powers:

Feline Physiology - Pantherinae (Jaguar specific): Grants enhanced physical ability. Strength, swimming, climbing and jump. He has faint jaguar spots on his skin, which helps him blend into shadows with a camouflage effect that makes it easier for a person's eyes to pass right over him. He also has the ability to use Cat Sight, which allows him to see in the dark and spot quick movements he'd otherwise miss. Cat Sight is vulnerable to bright flashes of light while active.

Sword Manipulation - Can create a sword out of a physical object. Cannot create swords out of nothing, or move them with telekinesis or anything complicated. Just put a decent stick in his hands and he can morph it into a real blade. Can manipulate the shape and sharpness at will. With time and practice his blades can hold their shape for a limited amount of time before reverting back to normal.

Back here again, huh?

Heiji sits down on the curb outside the porter building, and closes his eyes. His head is a mess of deja vu, memories that felt like they weren't entirely real fighting alongside the memories from home. Real zombies clashing with actors just trying to get a part, thousands of case details mixing up together.

A folder in his hands identical to one he'd received two months, nine months ago. How can two different truths be real?

He shakes his head to clear it, flipping idly through his folder. Much of the same information as last time. Not much has changed. One less power than last time, huh. No wonder he couldn't get everything in order right away, the perfect memory was gone.

Okay, first thing's first, figure out who's still here. Kuroba was the only person left from home, but he had other contacts he relied on that he hoped hadn't been sent home like him. Heiji digs out his notebook and starts making a list. As soon as he gets settled back in at home and figures out where his dog is, he needs to look through the comm and find out just what's been going on since he left.

The date say its January already. A lot can happen in this world in two months.

Finishing his list, Heiji shoves the notebook back in his pocket and grabs the nearest soldier. "Hey, how fast can ya get me to Maurtia Falls?"

FINAL NOTES: Heiji is in great health with no major injuries. His inventory is small, and mostly replaceable (phone, charm, notebook). If he can't regain the job he had, he will immediately reapply to the MFPD because he feels that's where he can be the most useful right now.

Permissions Post

CHARACTER NAME: Hattori Heiji
CHARACTER SERIES: Detective Conan

[OOC]
This is the permissions list for OOC (out of character), activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired.

Backtagging: yes
Threadhopping: yeeesss
Fourthwalling: general yes, but a heads up beforehand would be nice
Offensive subjects (elaborate): I'm usually not offended by much, but if I ask to drop a thread because it makes me uncomfortable please don't make a big deal out of it.

[IC]
This is the permissions list for IC (in-character), activity.
Answer the following questions with "yes" or "no", as well as additional information if desired. With IC permissions, it's a good idea to elaborate on what other players can expect from your character if they choose to do any of the following:

Hugging this character: yes
Kissing this character: yes, though you'll probably get a dramatic reaction
Flirting with this character: he is as dense as something at the bottom of the ocean. So of course.
Fighting with this character: He loves a good match. Do it.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Minor injuries like a cut during a fight that we're already apart of don't need to be discussed. Hitting him out of nowhere, please tell me first so I can respond properly but am okay with this too. More severe injuries should definitely be discussed before attacking. I'm probably not going to say no, but I would like to work it out first.
Killing this character: This should be discussed at length and have some purpose to either plot or personal story. I would prefer no random deaths.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Let me know first so I can add more detail to inner thoughts in my own tags. Heiji as normal has no mental defenses, though he is often loud and direct even in his head.

Warnings: In general he is loud and obnoxious, but he is also deceptively smart and if you have a secret to hide he is one of the ones to watch out for. He can pinpoint details with frightening accuracy and the more someone tries to hide from him the more curious he gets. Especially if he has reason to be suspicious. If you get into a fight with him, be prepared to be facing an incredibly skilled kendo captain. He is no pushover.
